We are located between Palestine and Athens, about 120 miles southeast of Dallas, 150 miles north of Houston and 50 miles south southwest of Tyler.

Any house built on the property belongs to the person who built it, but becomes a permanent part of the property and cannot be moved. (RVs and tents are an exception, however these are only allowed during the trial period and while building a permanent residence.)  If it becomes necessary for a member to leave the community, he/she may sell their dwelling, however the buyer must become a member of the community.

We are preparing a guest house. Proposed members may stay in the guest house or in a temporary shelter (RV, tent, etc.) during the 90 day trial period and while building their permanent dwelling.

The trial membership was suggested by several successful intentional communities while Itti Kanomi was in the “research” phase. New members must sign the community “agreement” that sets out rules and expectations. In addition, new members must be accepted by a majority of regular members. The trial period is a “no fault” time when the proposed member acts as a full-fledged member of the community except that no building of a permanent home may commence during that period. It frequently happens that what sounded good to the proposed member turns out to be different than they expected.  Less frequently, they turn out to simply be “not a good fit” for the rest of the community and the community fails to approve their membership. Generally, it is clear within a month or two that the proposed member will withdraw their petition for membership or not be approved for membership, so there is ample time to find alternative arrangements.
